ECONOMY

(*) Italy posted a state sector budget surplus of 6.5 billion euros in August compared to a surplus of 2.036 billion euros in the same month last year, the Treasury said on Monday.

COMPANIES

STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

The Franco-Italian carmaker's sales fell by 32.2% year-on-year in Italy in August, the Transport Ministry said on Monday.

Stellantis held a 24.8% share of the country's car market last month, according to Reuters calculations.

ENI ENI.MI

Four industry and diplomatic sources said speedy development at Eni's gas field Zohr had injected too much water into the reservoir, making gas extraction more difficult.

Eni said that production from Zohr was in line with what it had forecast and agreed with its partners and the authorities.

Libya's El Feel oilfield, which is operated by a joint venture between the state oil firm NOC and Eni, is "now undergoing major maintenance that will take time", two engineers told Reuters, following the country's National Oil Corporation's declaration of force majeure on the field as of Sept. 2.

(*) ITALGAS IG.MI

The board of Europe's largest gas distributor is expected to meet early next week at the latest to approve a binding offer of 5.2 billion euros, including debt, for smaller rival 2i Rete Gas, Corriere della Sera reported on Tuesday.
