STOCKS HOLD THEIR BREATH AS AMERICA VOTES
European equities were eking out small gains on Tuesday as America votes to decide the next president, which polls have as a toss-up between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
Should he be elected, Trump has planned to impose protectionist trade policies, including import tariffs, which analysts have said could stoke inflation.
Equities, bonds and the dollar are all expected to move on the results.
The winner, however, may not be known for days after Tuesday's vote, though Trump has already signalled that he will attempt to fight any defeat, as he did in 2020.
The pan-European STOXX 600 .STOXX is biding its time, trading up less than 0.2% on the day.
All the major bourses in Europe are also nudging cautiously higher, while Wall St futures are up on the day.
In corporate news, Schroders SDR.L shares are at their lowest since COVID lockdowns in March 2020 after it reported worse-than-expected flows.
Renewable stocks are also in focus after trading updates from Vestas VWS.CO and Orsted ORSTED.CO. The former is down over 10% after its third-quarter profit lagged forecasts, while Orsted, the world's largest offshore wind farm developer, was little changed after its results.
