Nov 7 (Reuters) -Mars Sour crude prices eased on Thursday after strengthening for the prior three days, dealers said, as Hurricane Rafael shifted west towards Mexico.

Mars Sour WTC-MRS eased 35 cents to a discount of $1.05 to U.S. crude futures CLc1. It had firmed 60 cents over the prior three days.

More than 22% of crude oil production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico was shut in response to Hurricane Rafael, the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said on Thursday.

Energy producers had shut in 391,214 barrels per day of oil production and nearly 181 million cubic feet of natural gas from Gulf waters, the bureau said.

Meanwhile, the WTI/Brent spread WTCLc1-LCOc1 widened 6 cents, but still remained narrow. A narrower spread makes U.S. crudes less attractive to foreign buyers.
