US Cash Grains-Corn, soybean basis steady to mixed as harvest rolls on
CHICAGO, Sept 20 (Reuters) -Basis bids for corn and soybeans were steady to mixed in the Midwest on Friday after weakening in numerous locations this week as the expanding U.S. harvest began steering fresh grain supplies into marketing channels, dealer said.
* The corn basis fell by 10 cents at Davenport, Iowa, where grain is loaded onto barges for shipment on the Mississippi River toward exporters at the Gulf. The basis fell by a penny at a Cincinnati, Ohio, elevator.
* However, with the harvest still in its early stages, tight grain supplies supported basis bids in a few areas. A Cedar Rapids, Iowa, corn processor was offering a quick-ship bid for corn delivered by Sept. 22 of 30 cents over Chicago Board of Trade December CZ24 corn futures. The basis for corn delivered in October, when harvest should be in full swing, was 50 cents weaker, at 20 cents under futures.
* For soybeans, the basis weakened by 6 cents at the Davenport, Iowa, river elevator and firmed by 1 cent at Cincinnati. Basis bids steadied at Midwest soybean processing plants, spot checks showed, after softening in recent days.
* Warm and mostly dry weather in the Corn Belt this week helped advance crop maturity and harvest activity. But rains were forecast to build across the Plains and much of the Midwest this weekend into early next week, potentially slowing field work, space technology company Maxar said in a client note.
* As of 12:11 p.m. CDT (1711 GMT), Chicago Board of Trade December corn futures CZ24 were down 3-1/2 cents at $4.02-1/4 per bushel and November soybeans SX24 were down 1-3/4 cents at $10.11-1/2 a bushel. GRA/
