US Cash Grains-Soybean, corn bids mostly flat to weaker
CHICAGO, Sept 18 (Reuters) -Basis bids for soybeans and corn were mostly steady to weaker in the U.S. Midwest on Wednesday as the harvest of both crops got rolling across more of the region, sending fresh grain supplies into elevators and processing plants.
* The soybean basis fell by 10 cents at a crushing plant in Lafayette, Indiana, and by 5 cents at a Decatur, Indiana, crusher.
* But dwindling supplies of old-crop grain supported basis bids in areas where the harvest had barely begun. The bean basis improved by 10 cents at a Toledo, Ohio, terminal.
* Corn basis bids fell by 3 to 4 cents a bushel at ethanol plants in Indiana and Iowa, spot checks showed.
* However, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, one corn processor was offering a sizable premium for grain delivered by Sept. 22, an indication of scarce supplies. The corn harvest in Iowa was only 2% complete by Sunday, the USDA said in a weekly progress report. US/COR
* As of 12:06 p.m. CDT (1706 GMT), Chicago Board of Trade December corn futures CZ24 were down 3/4 cent at $4.11-3/4 per bushel while November soybeans SX24 were up 4-1/2 cents at $10.10-1/2 a bushel. Traders awaited an interest rate decision due from the Federal Reserve at 1 p.m. CDT (1800 GMT). GRA/
