- Alaska Air ALK.N and Hawaiian Airlines HA.O cleared a major milestone in their quest to combine after the Justice Department opted against challenging the deal on antitrust grounds. The U.S. Department of Transportation still has to approve the merger in order for it to proceed.


- Media executive Edgar Bronfman Jr. has submitted a $4.3 billion offer to take over Paramount Global PARA.O through the acquisition of National Amusements, the family holding company that owns a controlling stake in the media company.


- Boeing BA.N found cracks in the structure of its 777X jetliner in initial test flights, the latest setback for the long-delayed airplane. The company said it would ground its four-plane test fleet while it replaces the faulty component and sorts out what went wrong.


- Tax and legal services firm Andersen Global is advancing efforts to pursue an initial public offering (IPO) of the U.S. unit, Andersen, with 90% of 264 participating U.S. partners voting in favor of continuing to consider an IPO.

- Carl Icahn and his company Icahn Enterprises IEP.O agreed to pay $2 million to settle civil charges from the Securities and Exchange Commission that he failed to disclose extensive borrowing against the company's shares.

- Danish shipping line A.P. Moller-Maersk said it would stop accepting Canada-bound cargo that needs to be moved by rail, the latest move by freight operators to brace for a possible work stoppage later this week at Canada's two main railroads.
