The U.S. Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics is slated to release August consumer inflation report, which could provide more clarity on the size of the Federal Reserve rate cut when it meets next week. The data is expected to show that the consumer price index (CPI) in August rose 0.2%, same as the previous month. Annually, CPI likely increased 2.6% in August, compared to a 2.9% rise in July. Core CPI, that excludes volatile food and energy components, is estimated to rise 0.2% in August, same as in July. In the 12 months through August, core CPI probably rose 3.2%.


Europe's second-top court is expected to rule on U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm's challenge against a 242 million euro EU antitrust fine imposed in 2019 for selling chipsets below cost to thwart British phone software maker Icera, which is now part of Nvidia.


Canadian discount store operator Dollarama is scheduled to post a rise in second-quarter revenue, helped by steady demand for its affordable groceries and essentials. Investors will look for comments on demand, impact of input costs as well as annual forecasts.


On the Latin American economic front, Brazil's service sector activity likely fell 0.1% in July, after rising 1.7% in the month before. Service sector growth is estimated to be up 2.4% in July from a year earlier. Meanwhile, Mexico's statistics agency INEGI data is projected to show that industrial output in July declined 0.2%, after rising 0.4% in June. Annually, industrial output probably rose 0.8% in July. Separately, Argentina's inflation rate in August is likely to be at 3.9%, following a 4% rise in the month before.
