JAKARTA, Sept 13 (Reuters) -Indonesia's trade surplus likely widened last month to nearly $2 billion from half-a-billion dollars in July, as import growth eased while exports increased, according to a Reuters poll on Friday.

The poll, which surveyed 13 economists between Sept. 9 and Sept. 13, indicated a trade surplus for August at $1.96 billion, versus $470 million surplus recorded in July.

The Southeast Asia's largest economy has been enjoying a monthly trade surplus since mid-2020 and hit the peak in April 2022 due to a commodity boom. It has since gradually narrowed due to slowing global demand.

Exports were seen to grow at 3.83% year-on-year last month, versus a 6.5% growth in July, economists in the poll indicated.

Meanwhile, the growth of imports in August was seen slowing down to 8.15% year-on-year, compared with 11.07% in July.
