US Cash Grains-Soy, corn basis bids mostly steady-weak as harvest advances
CHICAGO, Oct 1 (Reuters) -Basis bids for soybeans and corn were mostly steady to weaker in the U.S. Midwest on Tuesday as the new month began and dry weather continued to promote the harvest of both crops, sending fresh grain supplies to elevators and processing channels.
* The soybean basis fell by 15 cents a bushel at a Lafayette, Indiana, soy processing site, and by 5 cents at a Council Bluffs, Iowa, elevator.
* The corn basis tumbled by 19 cents at Davenport, Iowa, where grain is loaded onto barges for shipment on the Mississippi River, and by 5 cents at a Chicago-area elevator.
* However, the corn basis firmed by a penny a bushel at Decatur, Illinois, a grain processing hub.
* The USDA said the U.S. corn harvest was 21% complete as of Sunday, ahead of the five-year average of 18%, while the soybean harvest was 26% complete, ahead of its five-year average, also of 18%.
* Commodity brokerage StoneX on Tuesday raised its estimate of the average U.S. 2024 corn yield to 184.0 bushels per acre (bpa) from 182.9 in its previous monthly report released on Sept. 4. StoneX also raised its U.S. soybean yield forecast to 53.5 bpa from 53.0 last month.
* Chicago Board of Trade corn Cv1 futures set a three-month high on Tuesday, buoyed by higher crude oil CLc1 prices and rising tensions in the Middle East, as well as spillover strength from wheat. CBOT soybean futures Sv1 ended nearly unchanged. GRA/
