Archer-Daniels-Midland shares down after lawsuit; rival Bunge also down

** Shares in grain trader Archer-Daniels-Midland ADM.N fell 4% on Friday, hitting lowest level since March, after it was sued for allegedly failing to test, maintain safety systems on its grain equipment for years, contributing to an explosion that injured a worker

** ADM on Thursday declined to comment on the lawsuit

** Shares in ADM on track for biggest one-day decline since late September, last trading at $56.28, after earlier hitting $56.16, its lowest level since March 11

** Shares in ADM peer Bunge Global BG.N fell 5.9% on Friday, tracking for biggest one day pct decline since July, already showing highest daily trading volume since late Sept.

** BG shares last at $89.96 after earlier hitting $88.26, lowest level since Feb 13.

** Randy Place, analyst at commodity market firm Hightower Report in Chicago said ADM lawsuit likely made entire industry worried about increasing regulatory hurdles, which could affect Bunge too as well as ADM

** Susan Stroud, founder of No Bull Agriculture consultancy said ADM's decline likely stems from the lawsuit: "When you have one lawsuit then there are going to be a thousand more coming after."

** Also putting pressure on commercial grain trading co's was news Russian grain exporters will sell directly to sovereign buyers, while non-Russian winners of international tenders will receive Russian grain only if they have long-term off-take agreements with Russian firms

** Mike Zuzolo, president of Global Commodity Analytics, said commercial traders "likely to be bypassed in international tenders if this goes through. That’s what I think the market is thinking."
