INVESTORS BRACE FOR RESULTS FROM BIG NAMES NEXT WEEK

As the third-quarter U.S. earnings season heats up, investors still are anxious to hear from many of the biggest U.S. companies, and next week brings a slew of results from many of the big tech-related names.

Amazon.com AMZN.O, Apple AAPL.O, Meta Platforms META.O and Alphabet GOOGL.O all are due to report next week.

Results are in already for the third quarter from 181 of the S&P 500 .SPX companies, and analysts now are estimating a 4.4% year-over-year earnings gain, according to LSEG.

That's just slightly higher than the week-ago estimate for 4.0% growth, which had been negatively impacted by some preannouncements and also one-time charges, including for Eli Lilly LLY.N.

Some 79% of reports are beating analyst earnings expectations, per LSEG.

Also due next week are results from Intel INTC.O.

Among sectors, technology .SPLRCT and communication services .SPLRCL are expected to have had the biggest earnings gains in the third quarter. Tech is forecast to show 15.2% year-over-year earnings growth, based on LSEG data.
