U.S. ETF ASSETS NOTCH RECORD INFLOWS IN AUGUST - ETFGI

Volatility and Fed uncertainty considered, it's still been a pretty strong year so far for the U.S. equity market - and investors in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have been eager to get in on the action, data shows.

As of the end of August, U.S. ETF products notched year-to-date net inflows of $643.5 billion, the highest on record, according to data from research firm ETFGI.

That beat 2021's total full-year inflows of $594.4 billion. Total assets invested in U.S. ETFs touched a fresh record of $974 trillion in August, according to the data, an increase of over 20% from the end of 2023.

August also marked the 28th consecutive month of net inflows, with equity funds seeing inflows of nearly $19 billion, fixed income notching inflows of $25.6 billion, and commodity- focused ETFs taking in $715.6 million, according to ETFGI.

Still, year-to-date commodity funds have seen total net outflows of $1.3 billion.

Actively managed ETFs are also growing in popularity, already notching year to date inflows of $180.4 billion in August versus $74.2 billion for the whole of 2023.

The top 20 ETFs accounted for the lion's share of flows, the data showed, with Vanguard's S&P 500 ETF VOO.N seeing the largest individual inflows, while the information technology ETF VGT.N saw over $4 billion of net inflows.

The S&P 500 .SPX has gained over 17% so far this year, and the tech sector .SPLRCT is up 24.4%.

Globally, 1,192 new ETF products have been listed this year through the end of August, ETFGI said, already outpacing the previous record of 1,140 listed in 2021.
